Understanding Equity Compensation
Net Unrealized Appreciation and how it affects tax responsibilities.
Financial coaching as the behavioral layer that turns a financial plan into actual decisions. For clients who already know what to do but want a partner making sure it gets done.
Our team describes the role as a personal trainer for money. The metaphor is closer than it sounds. A personal trainer doesn't lift the weights for you. They show you the form, hold you to the schedule, and tell you when you're slipping. They notice when you're skipping leg day. They adjust the program when life gets hard. They don't pretend you can outsource the work itself.
The same pattern shows up in financial coaching. The client does the actual saving, the actual conversation with a spouse, the actual call to the estate attorney. The coach makes sure those things happen on a real schedule and that the right ones get the priority.
Who this fits.
This isn't a separate hourly engagement detached from the rest of the work. Coaching only makes sense inside an existing planning relationship, because the coaching has to be informed by the actual plan, the actual portfolio, the actual tax situation. We don't offer financial coaching as a standalone service for non-clients.
It's also not life coaching, therapy, or career counseling. We help with the financial side of decisions that have money attached. We refer out for the rest.
Coaching is a layer on top of the planning relationship:
The foundation. Coaching only works on top of a real plan.
Many coaching engagements focus on retirement decisions that need to actually get made.
The behavioral and accountability work is especially relevant in the years after a major life transition.
Who This Is For
Financial coaching shows up most in these situations:
We don't lead with proprietary products, structured notes, or non-traded REITs as a portfolio building block. We don't take custody of your assets. We don't promise market-beating returns. The honest answer is that nobody who has to tell the truth to a regulator can.
